Professor Björn-Martin Kurzrock is a Professor of Real Estate Studies at RPTU. He teaches various core modules on the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Real Estate and Facilities Management and Technology, and has been the programme director since 2015. He is also a member of the Departmental Council and a Founding Ambassador for the Department of Civil Engineering's students and alumni.

Professor Kurzrock's research focuses on the digital transformation of real estate and facilities management, as well as the development and management of real estate and urban environments. His research unit at RPTU focuses on applying machine learning to the real estate sector. Professor Kurzrock is also interested in the governance and business development of real estate companies. He is also affiliated with the Department of Data Science and its Applications (DSA) at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). He teaches Strategic Real Estate and Facilities Management, Investment Management, Real Estate Development, Due Diligence and Documentation, and Valuation.

Prior to pursuing an academic career, he served as Head of Research at IPD Investment Property Databank (now MSCI) in Germany. In this role, he collaborated with international companies on portfolio analysis and institutional property portfolio benchmarking. He received his PhD in Business Administration from EBS Business School. Prior to this, he graduated from EBS with a degree in Real Estate and Finance, and obtained a Master of Science in Real Estate from Georgia State University in Atlanta, USA.

He is a member of the editorial board of the German Journal of Real Estate Research (GJRER). He was President of the European Real Estate Society (ERES) in 2022 and 2023. Since 2016, he has been a member of the ERES board, representing the German Society of Property Researchers (gif). Since April 2023, he has been a member of the gif board. He has been awarded the student council prize for outstanding teaching several times by students in the Department of Civil Engineering at RPTU.

In 2023, he founded AdvisoRE – Digital Real Estate Solutions together with Dennis Aldenhoff, Jonathan Rothenbusch and Lukas Aldenhoff.
