Integrated District Concept for Kaiserslautern-Bahnheim

Project Description

The housing cooperative Bahnheim eG refurbishes their historical garden city Bahnheim with buidlings from the 1920s and 1950s in Kaiserslautern. In this research project an integrated residential area concept for the 369 dwellings in 77 buildings was developed. The aim of the concept is to reduce energy costs and GHG emissions, improve quality of living as well as upgrade the surrounding neighborhood. A specific challenge was the historical character of the garden city. Most of the 77 buildings have been under monumental protection since 1989.
