Welcome to the website of the chair of Built Environment

The Chair of Built Environment concentrates on components, plants and systems in buildings. Management of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting, and control of the building envelope are tasks for which we develop new and innovative solutions. We use a decentralized approach and focus on the interaction between humans and technology. The goal of our research is sustainable buildings which are operated in an energy efficient and economically sound way and which provide a maximum of comfort for their occupants.
We are a multinational team with a strong focus on interdisciplinarity: Researchers from the areas of civil engineering, building physics, mechanical engineering, computer science and architecture work together and use experimental as well as simulation methods in their research.
In the Living Lab smart office space we test new technologies under real-life conditions. The Living Lab is also a showroom for the broader public.
