Working with young people to understand the energy certificates of schools and residential buildings in the greater region and to optimize energy management (CERTEP_OPT)

Today, everyone is confronted with energy certificates when renting, buying or building. Although they are drawn up based on a single EU directive and there is only one climate in the Greater Region, the certificates are divided into B, F, D and LU. The layperson lacks a connection to the numerical values, which is why public interest is limited, although the impact of buildings' energy consumption on climate change is enormous. 40% of primary energy in Europe is consumed by the building sector, where user influence is over 30%.

The main objective of CERTEB_OPT is to make the energy certificate more tangible and to use it as a lever to reduce energy consumption. CERTEB_OPT is aimed at young people & teachers, directors, caretakers and public owners. In each country of the Greater Region, two pilot schools will be selected in which a group of students, together with their teachers, will try to understand the heat and electricity consumption of their building by reading the meters. - to reduce energy consumption by at least 15% through optimization together with the universities and local stakeholders, without renovation and without significantly reducing comfort. - to learn basic knowledge about the energy efficiency of buildings, room comfort and energy certificates. - to exchange ideas regularly through visits and to take part in a reduction and ideas competition. - to apply the same methodology in private residential buildings because "learning by doing" is very effective. - to use modern measurement, visualization and communication tools in this project to clearly visualize this.
