Development of ecologically and structurally optimised ceiling constructions for multi-storey buildings in timber construction

The aim of the project is the development of new, ecologically and building acoustically optimised ceiling constructions in timber construction with increased sound insulation at low frequencies.

The research project consists of the following innovative parts:

  • Simulation modelling of the acoustic properties of many different ceiling structures and validation of results through in-situ measurements
  • Development of a test setup for the acoustic testing of test samples
  • Development of test samples and their experimental investigation in the acoustic ceiling test rig
  • Development of a digital design and planning tool

As part of the project, new types of timber ceiling constructions are to be designed, taking into account static, practical construction, ecological and acoustic aspects. In particular, the focus is on sound insulation in the low-frequency range against impact and airborne noise as well as against noise from the operation of technical building systems. The acoustic properties of the ceiling constructions are initially determined using virtual models, which are designed based on various simulation tools and in-situ measurements. Through extensive parameter variations of the simulation models, the ceiling constructions are to be acoustically optimised and the efficiency of material use increased. In the further course of the project, the most promising ceiling constructions will be set up as test samples in the acoustic wall test rig and analysed experimentally. At the same time, a planning and design tool will be developed that will enable the new ceiling constructions to be specifically adapted to different acoustic situations and thus enable more efficient use of material
