As part of the lecture series "Technical Facility Management", the students of the Facility Management course visited the Technical Center of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern with Dipl.-Ing. Stefan Breuer, a member of Prof. Sabine Hoffmann's staff.

First, the head of the department of supply management, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Steffen Lelle, introduced us to the new central refrigeration plant. Legal requirements and the need for renovation necessitated a complete new construction of the plant. Around €10 million was invested in this, including ancillary costs. The refrigeration plant now centrally supplies the entire campus. In addition to the individual departments such as biology, chemistry, etc., the refectory is also supplied. In addition to air conditioning the rooms, refrigeration is also provided to the extensive cold storage facilities. This new plant ensures an energetically optimal, safe and trouble-free supply of cooling energy to the university.

Afterwards, the 20kV medium-voltage system was inspected. Head of the Electrical Management Department Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Andreas Becker explained the power supply of the TU from the feed-in via the transformers to the electrical distribution of the individual buildings.

The "highlight" of the tour was the university's infrastructure channel. It is a walk-in supply shaft through which all buildings on campus can be supplied with all necessary media. Since one does not often have the opportunity to see such a shaft from the inside, this impression will certainly remain in the memory of the students.

After a good 2 hours, an entertaining and interesting event came to an end, which presented a possible future field of activity to the participating students in a practice-oriented manner.
