LAND4FLOOD - PhD Workshop in Kaiserslautern, September 9 - 11, 2019
From September 9 to 11, 2019, the Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management department organised a PhD workshop as part of the EU-funded COST initiative LAND4Flood.
On the basis of the abstracts that reached us until July, 16 2019, we considered 11 external applications.

Call for Applications: DAAD Alumni Seminar „Resilient Flood Risk Management“
This DAAD Alumni Seminar focusses changes within existing flood risk management in context of the introduction of the term and concept of „resilience“. The ambition is to gather experts from different countries and contexts to advance their expertise in the field of flood risk towards a resilient flood risk management. This event will offer the chance to exchange experience and expertise, to merge networks and to foster future collaboration in research and practice.
The seminar is organised and conducted by the TH Köln University of Applied Sciences and the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern. The event will be composed of online-workshops and a one-week program in Germany from 14-18 October 2019.

Workshop "Resilient Communities" from Apr 11 to 13, 2018
Between April 11th and 13th 2018 the first international workshop on „Resilient Communities – how to effectively cope with water-related disasters“ took place at the TU Kaiserslautern.
Besides the concepts of resilience in flood-risk management, focus of the talks and subsequent discussions was on data management and data availability as well as on modelling concepts. The presentation of case-studies on resilient and non-resilient infrastructure was followed by discussions in working groups. Here, approaches were developed on how to deal with water-related disasters in the future.
It was a particular asset for the workshop to not only welcome scientists from Germany, France and the Netherlands, but also from Sri Lanka and Namibia. This allowed for a detailed insight into current problems on floods and flood protection with special view on draughts and floodings driven by recent climatic changes.
We are pleased to announce that the workshop on resilient communities will be established as a frequent event and might constitute a basement for scientific exchange and for future cooperation in research and application. In October 2018 the next workshop will take place as a special session in the international conference „Water Science for Impact“ at the University Wageningen (Netherlands) (https://www.wageningenwaterconference.com/). Furthermore, in 2019 a workshop on resilience will be organized by Prof. Dr. Alexander Fekete at the Institute of Rescue Engineering and Civil Protection, Technische Hochschule Köln
