High ductile cement based composite materials with short fibre reinforcement
High ductile concretes with short fibre reinforcement are cement based high performance materials with strain hardening behaviour. Compared to ordinary fibre reinforced concrete their strain at failure is up to some 10th powers higher. Their stress-strain-diagram is similar to that of steel. Besides their high deformation capacity and a compared to conventional concrete distinct higher flexural strength and shear resistance, high ductile concretes show up to a strain at failure of 5 % a very small crack opening which leads to a high durability of these materials.
The excellent properties of these materials can be reached by fibre-volumes below 2 % which gives a good cost-value ratio.
The development of high ductile concretes stands for a qualitative new chapter in concrete technology and offers new possibilities in construction and design as well as in restauration.
Promising applications for these concretes are lightweight and thin-walled structural members and elements for impulsive loads with high energy, e. g. earthquake-proof beams, columns, walls as well as high ductile repair mortars for the strengthening of bridges and holding tanks for hazardous waste.
